++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Dr. Margarita Calderón, creator of ExC-ELL (Expediting Comprehension for English Language Learners), has been working with NC DPI staff and school districts oversee the implementation of the ExC-ELL protocol in North Carolina.

ExC-ELL, developed with funding from the Carnegie Corporation and the U.S. Department of Education, is a research based approach to build literacy skills and accelerate language development.

In August 2009, the first teams from 6 school districts in North Carolina, as well as individual educators from 12 additional school districts were trained in the ExC-ELL protocol. On-site coaching visits to support this training occurred in September 2009.  Use of ExC-ELL has been ongoing since that time!
