State Funding for LEP Students
STATE FUNDING FOR LIMITED ENGLISH PROFICIENT STUDENTS:
A school district or charter school must have a minimum of 20
limited English proficient students in order to qualify for state
funds. That number is reported to the ESL office at DPI every October
by way of an electronic survey.
Although districts and/or charter schools may come together as
consortia to qualify for federal funds (Title III of NCLB), they may
not do so for state LEP funds.
To access the legislation on funding for limited English proficient
students, see the North Carolina General Assembly website[{N.C. General
Assembly} Then click on Bills enacted by the General Assembly and
approved by the Governor under News/Info.
